One of the things I hear people say most often in my business is…I have no idea what my purpose is! I have no idea what to do with my life! Etc. Etc.
The thing is, I think you do!
Instead of diving in and taking this thing on, we tell ourselves that things are ok…you’re working, paying the bills, you have more than most…be happy! Or we hide behind the fear of what other people might think
Listen, you may not have it all figured out, but you have some idea of what your passions are; this is almost always a good place to start!
Here are 5 other tips to help you begin to step out of your fear and into your purpose!
- What great hurdle have you overcome in your life or in the life of someone you love?
People just want to feel to better about themselves and the lives they live. And if you can help them to do that, then that is a powerfully and most likely profitable thing! Our life experiences are our greatest teachers and if you can figure out how you turned your greatest challenge into your greatest accomplishment, then this may be it!
But first, ask yourself these questions…
• Can you teach other people how to do what you’ve done, if not, are you willing to put in the time to learn?
• Does doing this thing excite you?
• Would you do it for free if you had to for awhile?
I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason and most of the time, that reason is for you to use what you’ve learned to help someone else and God’s will, get paid for it!
2. What do people tell you you’re good at?
My Mom was a great cook! Everyone would always tell her that she could sell her food or her recipes but she knew that wasn’t her calling…but maybe it’s yours!
You’re probably thinking that there are a lot of people that can bake really good cookies, decorate, write etc. This is one of the most common reasons we don’t even try!
Here’s why you’re different!
• Your Story! Who you are? How/When did you come to start doing this thing? Why you love it?
• Your Reason Why! Why are you good at this thing? Why is it important to you?
• Your Look!
• Your Approach!
• Your Personality
• Your Outlook on Life!
These are a few of the things that will help you to stand out in the crowd, so go ahead your purpose is waiting?
3. What comes easy to you but is often difficult for others?
“Wow, that comes so easy to you!”
If people are always saying this to you, then it may be a sign of your purpose. It can be really easy to take for granted the value of a habit or practice that you do that takes you little or no effort.
The challenge here is that boredom can set in when things are too easy but don’t let this deter you from considering that this thing may be your calling!
4. Ask God to help you.
Make it a part of daily prayers to ask God to guide you in this process. He created you. He
knows what he has for you to do. Pray for the mind to listen and the courage to obey.
5.Other Things to Look Out For!
You may find it hard to know what your purpose is but I can guarantee you that you know for sure what it isn’t! Keep a list of the things that are definite NOs! This will help you to save time and stay focused.
Finding and developing your purpose will take time and probably change forms. Instead of being a singer you may discover that you are more satisfied with teaching others how to sing. Stay open and accepting to the process.
When you find your true purpose, it will…
• Feel like a nature extension of who you are and what you believe!
• It will take hard work and patience no matter what it is.
• Time will fly by when you’re engaged in it.
• It will help to make a difference in the lives of other people.
