As parents, we’re constantly concerned about what we’re teaching our kids but rarely do we think about what they are here to teach us.
My husband and I have been together for almost 20 years and married for 10. His name is Nehemiah Davis. Davis and I have 5 kids collectively. Each of us has 2 kids from previous relationships and 1 together.
In this post I’ll introduce you to my 2 kids and the one we share together.
Davis would tell you that we originally met in college during which time I refused to give him the time of day… I have no recollection of this whatsoever, so it must be true!
I do however remember meeting him in the early 90s. We both worked for local nonprofits at the time. His agency was actually mentoring mine.
Davis is teaching me generosity, self control, tenacity and the true meaning of family.
Suga is teaching me about faith, laughter, forgiveness and unconditional love.
This stunning creature is my daughter Jeannie.
She’s named after my Mom. She’s 19 and a dancer. She’s all the things I never had the courage to be at her age.
She’s a singer, actress and reluctant 7th. grader. She’s adamant, loyal and little judgmental but it serves her well right now.
It’s important to note that all these lessons were buried deep under late nights, worry, frustration, tears, disappointment and endless prayers but I found them and I am better because of it…I am better because of them!
What are your kids teaching you!
